Roman Goat Dairy is a small goat dairy in Homer, GA. It is owned and operated by Mariah Yori, and her husband Timothy Burford.

Mariah is a 2013 graduate of the University of Georgia. She majored in animal science with an emphasis on production and management, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree. While in school she participated in an internship at Capriole, Inc., a commercial goat dairy and creamery in Greenville, IN, and fell in love with the fun, lovable nature of goats.

After graduating college she purchased her two first goats, Zigzag and Zefron, and soon followed them up with two more, Puddle and Jazz. And thus Roman Goat Dairy was founded.

We have a closed herd of alpines, only bringing in other bucks for breeding purposes. All the does after the original four have been born and bred at our farm. When we realized that fluid goat milk would not quite pay the bills we began playing around with other goat milk products to sell. Mariah did not want to make cheese - the market seemed saturated and she wanted to find something she could be truly passionate about - and so she began playing around with goat milk confections. She stumbled across a recipe for goat milk caramels, and fell in love with the process. Not to mention the outcome.

It took some time to perfect the recipe, but it was well worth it. The caramels were creamier and smoother than a typical store-bought caramel, and became a hit at the local farmer's market. They even won first place at the 2017 National ADGA Convention Amateur Confection Competition in Atlanta, GA. But production was halted when we were informed that the caramels could not be sold in store-fronts without a Grade A dairy.

Roman Goat took a hiatus to restructure. A Grade A dairy was very expensive, and we did not have the funds for that. In the meantime Mariah's mom began playing around with making goat milk soaps, and upon realizing that she could combine her artistic skills with her goat milk products Mariah fell in love with the idea.

Now Roman Goat is back and once more producing high quality goat milk products. We have a variety of goat milk soaps and candies available, and are always looking into more recipes.
